For the epigram for the Conclusion to God’s Good Earth I used part of one of my own songs from many years ago.

The Eye of the Beholder by Jon Garvey
Ashes Hollow on the Long Mynd in Shropshire

It was inspired by one of the more beautiful parts of English landscape – the Long Mynd in Shropshire. I first visited it on a zoology field course, but a few years later I and my friend, comprising a “progressive rock folk duo” called Peculiar Lucan Source were asked to provide music for a town-wide church event in Shrewsbury. We stayed with a university friend of mine whose parents had an ancient house and played early music. The Sunday afternoon walk on the Mynd was a high spot.
